This unit explores the relationship between design, space and human behaviour, emphasising the evolving nature of man-made environments. It draws inspiration from historical examples of how design has responded to changing needs and technologies. Students will gain insight into key factors influencing furniture and accessory design, learning to navigate context, user needs and diverse sources of inspiration. The unit covers the history of furniture, contemporary design scenarios, basic construction techniques and aesthetic considerations like colour, material and form. Students will also engage in concept generation, iteration and execution through sketches and technical drawings.
