Starting with no fixed direction, I embraced the uncertainty of “uncharted waters,” drawn to natural marine textures and repetition. The Royal Starfish, with its striking symmetry and color, became my unexpected muse—revealing how nature’s imperfections could inspire modular, man-made patterns.

Structuring ideas around symmetry, I dissected the starfish into repeatable parts, translating its radial balance into geometric tessellations. This fusion of organic and precise geometry guided the design of laser-cut MDF and moulded cement tiles.

Imagining these tiles as storytelling surfaces, I integrated coral textures and a sea-inspired palette to evoke emotional depth. Layering relief and patterns introduced tactile qualities, inviting touch as much as sight.

Constructing the pieces gave them physical presence—cement offering marine stone density, MDF rhythmic lightness—both scalable and functional.

Through iterative refinement, I balanced form and function, perfecting seamless tessellations, texture depth, and subtle colour to harmonize nature’s rhythm with design discipline.
