This painting , explores the layered realities of Valparai in the Annamalai Hills, Tamil Nadu. Moving through tea estates, fragmented forests, and local communities, the work reflects on the complex entanglements of labor, land, and conservation. Combining field photography with reflective storytelling, the project documents the transformation of perception—from tourist gaze to ecological sensitivity. Through encounters with moths, hornbills, forest nurseries, and local women, the essay captures the tensions between restoration and exploitation, offering a nuanced meditation on presence, privilege, and the quiet resistance embedded in everyday acts of care.
