This studio explored indigenous storytelling within the Indian context through the lens of Pattachitra, a traditional scroll painting style. Immersing myself in its visual grammar—panel-based sequencing, bold motifs, and intricate borders—I investigated how constraints could guide creativity. As I practiced brushwork and explored character expressions, I fused contemporary ideas with traditional form, developing a unique narrative rooted in emotional depth and visual rhythm. Crafting my own scroll became an alchemical process: layering colour, texture, and meaning to transform raw research into a cohesive story. The journey involved experimenting with media, refining proportions, and finding harmony within structure. Each stage—from preparing surfaces to final brushstrokes—reflected a rhythm of discovery, failure, and adaptation. The outcome wasn’t just a character and scroll, but a deeper understanding of how indigenous processes can shape powerful, personal storytelling in design today.
